Hazardous Materials First Responder (Operations Level)
Defensive tactics to contain the release from a safe distance and keep it from spreading and prevent exposures without trying to stop the release. Meets and exceeds the requirements of CFR 29 1910.120 and CCR Title 8.
Hazardous Materials First Responder (Operational Decontamination)
This course will provide the haz mat emergency responder with the processes used in decontamination and methods to limit the spread of hazardous materials contamination in a safe and competent manner.
Hazardous Materials Incident Analysis
This NFA hand-off course covers analyzing and assessing the potential effect of hazardous materials, development of strategies for dealing with haz mat incidents, hazardous materials classifications, labeling and packaging, and regulations and standards.
Hazardous Materials The Pesticide Challenge
This NFA hand-off course provides basic information relative to the handling of fires, spills and other incidents involving pesticides and related agricultural chemicals.
Hazardous Materials 1A Basic Chemistry of Hazardous Materials
This course provides an intensive introduction to the nature and behavior of inorganic and organic chemicals. Various laws of chemistry are discussed as they apply to organic compounds, flammable liquids and gases, and other types of hazardous materials.
Hazardous Materials 1B Applied Chemistry, Field Identification of Chemicals
This course teaches students how to apply information learned in Hazardous Materials 1A. Students are instructed in the use of field monitoring and detection devices, sample collection equipment, and field identification testing procedures for verifying, identifying, and classifying unknown chemicals.
Hazardous Materials 1C Incident Considerations
This course provides an introduction to the haz mat Incident Command System, concepts associated with haz mat response activities, and an in depth study of incident specific considerations influencing haz mat emergencies. Students are introduced to site safety planning, contingency planning, protective action options, and meteorological considerations.
Hazardous Materials 1D Tactical Field Operations
This course provides the student with “hands on” training in haz mat confinement and control operations including diking, dams, absorbent materials, methods and procedures of plugging, patching, sampling, and over packing. Students are presented with an opportunity to utilize chemical protective equipment and decontamination methods and procedures. Information on other tactical considerations such as haz mat triage, sabotage, preservation of evidence, and EMS considerations is also provided.
Hazardous Materials 1E
This course has been deleted from the Hazardous Materials Specialist series. Course content is included in the remaining hazardous materials courses.
Hazardous Materials 1F Specialized Mitigation Techniques
This module is an intensive “hands on” introduction to specialized mitigation techniques employed by the Hazardous Materials Specialist. Instruction includes plugging, patching, and repairing railroad tank cars, intermodel tanks, and highway cargo tank cars, advanced chemical field identification testing procedures, and fixed facility repair considerations.
Hazardous Materials 1G Advanced Field Operations
This module brings together all of the information presented in modules 1a-1f in an environment of “hands on” full scale exercises. The students will be evaluated for their ability to perform as a member of a Haz Mat team in a series of simulated haz mat incidents.
